My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed. You’re facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don’t think too much further than that. And so what you’ve got to do is you’ve got to curtail that type of behavior. They don’t know any better.
That’s SC Lt. Governor Andre Bauer’s take on programs designed to feed hungry people. This would include reduced-priced or free lunch programs, in which 58% of SC students participate. Can’t go giving those stray kids meals because they’ll just make babies, I guess.
He’s running for the Republican nomination for governor. I can’t decide which was worse – Mark Sanford hiking the Appalachian Trail all the way to his Argentine mistress or this guy calling people stray animals.
He says the schools with the worst test scores are the schools that give out free lunches. He obviously doesn’t understand that correlation isn’t causation. Because most murders occur when ice cream sales are high, should we ban the sale of ice cream? Or could it be that a third factor, high temperatures, are the cause of both? Should we let kids go hungry, which will only makes scores worse, because school lunches must cause bad scores; or could it be that a third factor, poor neighborhoods and schools, is the real culprit? Schools in poor neighborhoods tend to score worse.
Bauer is basically saying if a child’s parents aren’t active enough, he will punish the child. It’s not often you hear a politician run on starving children so they can’t reproduce (stupid stray animals). It’s so refreshing to hear a politician speak his mind. Let’s hope it ends his gubernatorial bid instantly.
If he’s so worried about reproduction, perhaps he should campaign on comprehensive sex education and readily available birth control. But something tells me that won’t happen.
Enjoy his attempt to spin this, in which he said he didn’t compare people to stray animals, then, yet again, compared people to stray animals.

I think this guy is heartless and stupid and the only thing he is teaching others is to be abusive and neglectfull toward another human life. And if I was a family member of his or an aqauintance of his I would be very embarrasssed and would not admit to even knowing him. I realize there are two sides on the stories of homeless and hungry people . Some bring it on themselves by drinking ,gambling or drugs. and that is sad but what about our veterans who gave their lives or limbs or the ones who will never be able to live a normal life again because of all the horrible things they had to endure for our freedom just so this idiot could write the shit he’s writting. Or the single mothers who work 50+ hours a week to keep up the house payments and to buy food for the kids after the cheating husband decided he did not want to be married any more. Or our senior citizens who have to decide whether to buy their blood pressure medicine or food. I hope this guy dosen’t ever end up in a natural disaster and torn apart from his family and have to endure weeks months or even years of not knowing what’s going to become of him or how it feels to have the awfull pains that come along with dehrdration or the pains and confusion or halucinations that happens when your body is starving to death and organs are starting to shut down. This guy is an embarrassment and should be very ashamed of himself. Obvisiosly his darling Grandmother kept him very sheltered from the real world. It’s time he opened his eyes and looks around. You going to treat a human life like you do a stray dog or cat put them up in a shelter for a week or so and if no one claims them give them a shot to die and go on with your life .

Thank you for commenting Stacey. I wonder if Bauer has even gone 1 day without food. I know for a fact that there are children in our public school system who survive from school lunches, and when it is the weekend or if there is a snow day, teachers worry about what some of their kids will eat (some teachers will bring food from home to put in their backpacks).
It is scientifically proven that proper nutrition is important in brain development and skill aquisition; you cannot learn if you are hungry. Unfortunately, most of our nation’s children who live in poverty need this goverment program to live. Why should these kids be punished for something they don’t have control over? It is not their fault and they should not be singled out for not having a lunch. Why don’t we just have one program that focuses on proper nuturion and well-being for all children. No more fast food luches and sodas. We need to teach our children how to take care of their bodies and school lunches could be a part of that program.
Also, many families who qualify for free and reduced lunch programs refuse because they feel ashamed to be accepting help. I guess this goes against what some posters on this blog say, who are always complaining about free-loaders. I find that most people work very hard so that they do not have to accept help and most only do so when they feel they have no other options.
