Apparently Miami Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland thought this was a good question to ask of Dallas Cowboys rookie Dez Bryant during a pre-draft interview.
Ireland has since apologized.

My question is what was Ireland thinking.  He couldn’t have thought this would have been an acceptable question while conducting the interview.  What do these types of questions have to do with what the player is going to do on the field.  If I would have been Bryant, I may have gotten up and sent Ireland into next week.  Despite what is in his mothers past, this totally crossed the line.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell needs to act.  A fine, suspension, anything.

Absolutely ridiculous. I have no idea what he was thinking. Questions of character are reasonable, but this is so unrelated it’s asinine.

Good to know GMs are concerned with what’s important. Or perhaps he was looking for something special.

Just to clarify a bit, I was equally offended by the question until I heard the context of the the conversation.

Ireland: What did you dad do?

    Dez: He was a pimp.

Ireland: What did your mom do?

Dez: She worked for my dad.

Ireland: You mom was a prostitute?

I saw that the other day, Devin. In that context I feel bad for the guy. If that’s how it went down he’s getting a lot of shit for nothing.

Good to hear from you. I feel like the last time I saw you on the D line you were mentioning something about my mom being a prostitute. Or maybe that was me.
