CHAMBERLAIN, S.D. (AP) — School officials in Chamberlain are investigating an incident in which six high school students wore homemade T-shirts proclaiming “White Pride World Wide.”
A derogatory slang term for impoverished white people also was on the back of each shirt, along with a symbol often used by white supremacists. On the front of the shirts
was the word “Peace” and a peace sign.

Superintendent Tim Mitchell says officials are looking into why the students made the shirts. He says they violated the school’s dress policy. Two of the students changed their shirts and the other four left school.
One of them, 16-year-old Codie Novotny, says the shirts were a response to accusations by some American Indian students that white students and teachers are racist. She also says Indian students are allowed to wear clothing proclaiming “Native Pride.”

I so hope they weren’t asked to remove the shirts b/c of the ‘white pride world wide’ line.  I sure hope it was b/c of the derogatory slang used.  Miss Novotny was correct about the native pride shirts.  I have seen them on several occasions while on my travels.

You’re okay with the phrase “White Pride World Wide”? It seems pretty close to white power to me. I think the circumstances of a shirt saying “Native Pride” are a bit different. I see what they’re getting at, but White Pride just songs wrong. Maybe if a Czech student had a shirt with “Czech Pride” or, as so many people actually wear, and Irish person with “Irish Pride.” Something about just saying all whites should be proud to be white seems wrong.

I would assume the school would ban any “pride” shirt or possibly any shirt with a message. The courts have actually upheld a school banning clothing with any message. One student wore a shirt with the First Amendment written on it and, ironically, was sent home because it was considered a message. Funny stuff.

I have to assume the slang was white trash.

I really don’t get why this has to be explained over and over–It’s tiresome. White people, historically, have been the oppressors of other races so they do not need to be wearing shirts stating “White Pride.” It is extremely offensive. Native Americans have been the victims. A shirt saying “Native Pride” is not the same as a “White Pride” T-shirt. Can you imagine being African-American or Native American and sitting next to someone wearing a “White Pride” shirt? The message it portrays is not “White pride”; it is saying we are superior over everyone else and we have the power–it is the history behind it that makes it wrong. Make it wrong to wear any pride t-shirts; I’m fine with that. What I can’t believe is that people don’t get what’s wrong with this. Maybe they’ve never read a history book.

I am going to create a TV Station called WET…White Entertainment Network. Tc compete directly with BET.
I am still trying to come up with something to compete with FUBU – For Us By Us, not creative enough I guess…

The past is the past…if its ok for one group to wear, then its ok for all groups.

The past is the past? It’s not like it ended in the 12th century. In historical terms it was pretty much yesterday. But you’re right, the ramifications of our actions stopped adversely affecting the Native American community a long time ago.

The problem is that instead of encouraging a new generation to drop racism, we are instead seeing more and more t-shirts designed for pride in specific races. More racism will not fix the problem and shirts like “Native Pride” and countless others will not help anything either. The “N” word in rap music doesn’t help. There are many areas where people need to consider whether they are actually looking for equality with their actions. I don’t blame white kids who have never committed a hate crime for being fed up with racist t-shirts in their schools. History is one thing, kids with a chip on their shoulder because of things that happened long before their time is another. Touchy as it is, parents have to be very careful to avoid passing racism of any sort on to their kids (whether encouraging hate of a race or a belief that their own race is somehow better).

That’s my whole point; racism didn’t end a long time ago. It is still very rampant today. We have had this argument so many times, I wonder why I bother. There are so many groups that still today are being discriminated against and it is NOT whites.

i think that the only reason white people can’t wear shirts that say white pride is becouse it reminds every other race that we are still superior to them, and they do not like to be reminded of it.like it or not it’s the truth. think about it,do you ever see a white person crying over a mexican with a ‘brown pride’ shirt? or holding marches to protest BET? White people know we still run things we dont have to wear pride on a shirt,It shows!

Did you really just say “we are still superior to them”? I hope you didn’t mean that how it sounds.

Everyone listen up! Welcome to America…..White, Anglo-Saxon kids can wear “white pride” if they want to! Its our fucking history! Its not racist at all unless they advertise it is. It says “white pride” not “white power” you idiots. Someone tell me what the hell the difference is between a black guy wearing a “black pride” or a native american wearing a “native pride” vs. a white kid wearing a “white pride” tshirt……and dont give me the story about how the history of slavery in this country means that we cant be proud of our roots. Slavery didnt start this country, it was happening, but it was not the base of this country. It was abolished so get over it and move on and stop using it as a damn crutch! FACT: Native American wears “Native Pride”, African American wears “Black Pride”, Anglo American wears “white pride” = NO DIFFERENCE! If the people that started and develpoed this country cant be proud of there history then this is no longer the America of my birth, this was the country that took all the tired hungry and poor…..dont forget….it was the Anglo Americans that did that for all your foreign families……so before you tell others what they can and cannot be proud of, remeber that and put your holier than thou attitude away. Dont ever tell me that because im white, i cant be proud of it without being a racist. Check yourself!

So you’re proud of being white, not German, or English, or Polish, or whatever. Just white? So you’re proud to look the same as Russians? Are you proud of their accomplishments? Can you not see how that is completely different than Native Americans, who collectively saw their way of life and actual lives destroyed? Or African Americans, who share the same heritage of oppression and racism? How is this not obvious.

Don’t you forget that the white people that took the tired, the hungry, and the poor decided to take white tired, hungry, and poor. Now that non-white people want to come, we pass laws forcing them out, because we no longer will accept the tired, hungry, and poor.

And don’t act like slavery being abolished means it’s effects aren’t felt. Blacks weren’t full citizens until the mid-60s, and weren’t even treated as such then.

There is a clear and obvious difference between a historically oppressed minority having pride in the face of oppression (think the raised fist on the podium) and the oppressor taking pride. Native American culture was destroyed (recently, historically speaking) by white people. Their community needs people to be proud of their heritage in order to preserve it and to move them forward.

Let’s think of it this way: African Americans rightly feel pride at those like Dr. King that stood up to oppression. It is a part of their shared history as an American minority that is directly related to their race. I am proud of the country our Founding Fathers created, but it has nothing to do with the fact that they were white. My (and most other people’s) ancestors weren’t even in this country. To say my wearing a “White Pride” shirt has anything to do with the founders is silly. To say it does is paradoxical. Am I also proud of the whites they were declaring independence from? Am I proud of the Redcoats? The difference should be obvious. They were oppressed as a race and had to stand up and be proud as a race to throw of the shackles of oppression.

You’re right, Dr, you couldn’t have said it better. There is no better way to say it. It’s hard to see “White Pride” as anything but a celebration of the oppression of the same minorities you mentioned.

I’m not the one who has to do any self checking.

You said that very well, Adam. What I don’t get is why it’s so hard for other people to understand this. Why is it so difficult for people to put themselves in someone else’s shoes or situation and understand what they went through and how oppression has affected them. How native Americans and blacks have had to fight for their very survival as a race. Why is it so hard to understand that someone wearing a white pride t-shirt has a far different context than someone wearing a “black-pride” t-shirt?

Watching the Shirley Sherrod situation recently has certainly been interesting. It shows how important context is in a situation. How this woman grew as a person and overcame her own prejudices (certainly justifiable in my opinion) and was able to help the very people who had treated her as an inferior. What I find puzzling is why is it people (like Breitbart) who have never been treated unjustly in their own lives are the most racist?

  14. Good post. I learn something new and challenging on sites I stumbleupon on a daily basis. It will always be exciting to read content from other writers and practice a little something from other web sites.

The initial factor that you require to think about is how you are going to gather info about the business for sale. It does not make any difference if you are getting a single enterprise, the figures usually set the value. In purchase to make a secure purchase, it is vital that you are permitted to accessibility all of the information that you require about your company.. This can be hard when hoping to get a business for sale by the owner. Some will try out to simply give you the data that you ask for, even so you need to be capable to verify it. The only way to do this is by finding immediate accessibility to it. If the proprietor will not permit you see the identical details that they see, it will be extremely hard for you to get the total picture of the situation, which leaves you at a awful disadvantage.
