Democratic National Committee Executive Director Jennifer O’Malley recently said John Thune scares her. This is because he could be the most dangerous contender in 2012 (though I don’t think it’s as scary as the prospect of him actually being president). She went so far as to say he gives her nightmares.

O’Malley and others recognize that most of the possible GOP contenders are flawed, but she sees something in Thune that is threatening. I personally think he’s flawed, but when compared to Palin (lying quitter) and Romney (who implemented Obamacare before Obama was near the Oval Office), I guess it’s easy to stand out.

For some reason I think Newt Gingrich is scary, and he seems to want to run. The least scary thing in the world would be Palin winning the Republican Primary. The most scary thing in the world is that she has a chance to win the Republican Primary.

Enjoy the quick ramping up of the 2012 election in mid 2010.

If you hate health care reform, you should hate Mitt Romney.

Mitt Romney came out and said, “America has just witnessed an unconscionable abuse of power. President Obama has betrayed his oath to the nation…”

He has to do this because he knows he’s vulnerable on the issue. He’s vulnerable because he is the only governor that has passed reform almost exactly like Obama’s.

His plan, for instance, had an individual insurance mandate and provided help to those that couldn’t afford it.

Were you confused as to who that “His” referred to? Pick a name, because both of their plans fit that description.

If you read that salon article, they make a pretty strong argument that he helped craft and pass the MA legislation in order to differentiate himself from other Republican presidential contenders. So he did it to help himself. And now that it is a Republican bugaboo, he has to pretend to really, really hate it.

It’s hilarious, but the Heritage Foundation (hyper-conservative “research” group) gave Romney their blessing for that bill. Conservatives okayed that one. But now that a Democrat is in charge, it’s the worst thing in the world.

Oh hypocrisy, how rampant thou art.

Enjoy fantasy baseball season.

Update: Even Fox News chief Roger Ailes admits that the Obama administration has legitimate complaints.

Sarah Palin was on Leno’s show, and she called out the media for not having “the fairness, the balance in there.” She actually said those words. Then she went on to say she went to Fox News because they don’t put opinion in their hard news stories. Because they never have reporters say snow disproves global warming and big bad Gore and several other such things.

So Jon Stewart went to turned to Megyn Kelly’s show, which is in the “news” portion of FN’s day (which is 8:00 a.m -3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.). Jon checks the coverage of her show, America Live, on the day of the Health Care Summit to see if it lives up to its billing as showing both sides of every story.

I doubt anyone would be surprised to find that her show is hardly balanced.

Fox just makes it easy when they come out and say we’re going to show both sides evenly. And it’s even easier when Sarah Palin says that’s why she went there. Because it shows obvious balance when all Republican politicians and strategists go there as soon as they’re done campaigning or they quit their job to help their state by spreading crazy death panel lies or doing stand-up that actually makes Leno look funny. Speaking of which, Jon discussed Palin’s stand-up, too. (Spoiler, Alaska is cold and different than Hollywood.) Jon gives her way more credit than I can, and his piece also includes Romney on Letterman. Maybe I just couldn’t stand how she stood up for Jay in the whole Conan-gets-screwed fiasco. As if I needed more reason to dislike her she sees herself as a Jay Leno-type figure.

Mike Huckabee appears upset with several Republicans. In his book, Do The Right Thing: Inside the Movement That’s Bringing Common Sense Back to America, Mike “names names.”  I wonder why he would tout what I assume is his movement when it couldn’t make it out of the primary (I thought Obama was the common sense move), but Huckabee thought it was necessary.  I wonder if he could have even called it a movement if not for the Colbert Bump.  It appears he had more in mind than telling the story of the movement that’s bringing common sense back to America (might want to reconsider the name).  Huckabee calls out Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, John Hagee, and some others for various things.  This certainly is not going to help bring the GOP together.  His beef with Hagee is that he couldn’t get a straight answer about who the Lord told him to endorse. Here is a link, and there may be more to come:

I wrote earlier about a possible civil war breaking out in the GOP, and it appears things are going to get heated. Palin supporters are turning on Palin haters with those looking for a bright Romney future caught in the middle (or something?). It sounds like there is an attempt to “excommunicate” members who trashed Palin. If they decide to excommunicate the Palin supporters right back for screwing the party, we could have an old-fashioned Great Schism in the Republican Party. In this analogy, would Frum and his ilk be the Eastern Orthodox and the pro-Palin crowd Roman Catholic? Would that make the Romney crowd the…Protestant? This analogy obviously has nothing to do with actual religion, so don’t take offense. Jim Nuzzo was the one who used the word “excommunicate.” I just took it and ran with it. Anyway, here is a link with some good details:

The GOP and a new Great Schism
