The voting for the 2024 US Presidential election has started to close in most states with people now waiting to know who between Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris will make it to White House. Ahead of the result, the exit polls for the US election is being closely monitored which is giving a clearer view about the issues on which Americans’ vote were based.
An aggregate of national surveys compiled by Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ) showed Harris and Trump evenly tied at 48.4 per cent each.
DDHQ’s aggregate of Arizona surveys showed Trump leading Harris 50 per cent to 47 per cent. In Georgia surveys, Trump was ahead of Harris, 50 per cent to 48 per cent.
In Michigan, the DDHQ aggregate showed Harris narrowly ahead, 49 per cent to Trump’s 48 per cent.
Meanwhile, in Nevada, Trump leads Harris 49 per cent to close to 48 per cent.
In DDHQ’s aggregate of Pennsylvania surveys, Trump leads Harris 49 per cent to 48 per cent, while in Wisconsin, Trump was narrowly ahead at 49 per cent to 48 per cent.
As per the national exit poll data from Edison Research, 44 per cent of American voters prefer Trump, while 48 per cent favor Harris.

The Edison Research exit poll data for Georgia showed 46 per cent support Trump and 49 per cent for Harris. In Michigan, 45 per cent support for Trump, 48 per cent for Harris.
In Wisconsin, as per Edison Research data, 44 per cent voters support Trump, while 47 per cent support Harris. Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania 47 per cent support Trump and 46 per cent support Harris.
In North Carolina, 43 per cent support Trump and 48 per cent support Harris.
The Edison Research exit poll further showed that 44 per cent of voters across America expressed a favourable view of Trump, slightly down from 46 per cent in the 2020 exit poll. Meanwhile, 54 per cent viewed him unfavourably, up from 52 per cent in 2020, Reuters reported.
For Harris, 48 per cent of voters said they viewed her favourably, compared to 52 per cent who held the same view of Biden in the 2020 exit poll. Also, 50 per cent of voters expressed an unfavourable opinion of Harris, compared to 46 per cent for Biden in 2020.
The Edison Research exit poll data also highlighted that almost three-quarters of voters believe American democracy is under threat.
So far, with 35 per cent, democracy and with 31 per cent, economy, ranked the most important issues for voters. These were followed by abortion (14 per cent), immigration (11 per cent) and foreign policy (4 per cent).
The poll also showed 73 per cent voters believed democracy was in jeopardy, against 25 per cent who said it was secure.
On economic matters, 51 per cent trusted Trump over Harris (47 per cent).
Regarding abortion, 51 per cent trusted Harris more than Trump (44 per cent).
Meanwhile, according to a CNN exit poll, about three-quarters of voters have a negative view of the current state of affairs in the US.
A merely one-quarter call themselves enthusiastic or satisfied with the state of the nation, with more than 4 in 10 dissatisfied and roughly 3 in 10 saying they’re angry.
But voters remain generally optimistic, with more than 6 in 10 saying that America’s best days are in the future, and only about one-third that they’re already in the past.
President Joe Biden’s approval rating is underwater nationally, with about 4 in 10 voters saying they approve of his job performance and a majority disapproving.
The US election exit polls captured variations among turnout in various demographic groups, such as men vs women voters or college-educated vs non-college educated voters, and provided insights into how turnout has changed from the previous elections.
One key advantage of exit polls is all the people surveyed, by definition, are people who cast ballots in this election.
