Modellista, a well-known Japanese aftermarket company that was also born as a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, specializes in tuning and modifying existing Toyota vehicles. It made sure to hit SEMA this year with a wild Land Cruiser-based concept vehicle called the Overland Vision. This is just one of the many Toyota concepts being exposed this week inside the Las Vegas Convention Center, and pushes the Land Cruiser to an entirely new level of overlanding extremes.

Modellista Is Using SEMA As A Test For U.S. Market Penetration
Presented at the Toyota booth, the Overland Vision Concept is an entirely new approach for Modellista as it focuses heavily on what the company considers to be the latest trends in off-road customization, particularly in the U.S. Modellista currently doesn’t sell its accessories or vehicles in North America, but that could change if significant demand for the Overland Vision Concept is observed.
The company made it clear in its press release that this concept vehicle’s core mission is to explore the potential of its brand in the U.S. The decision will depend on people’s reaction at SEMA. If everything goes as planned, Modellista wants to incorporate these design elements into its U.S. lineup in the future.
So, what are we talking about here? The concept vehicle is essentially a heavily fortified Land Cruiser designed for overlanding in places where a normal Land Cruiser can’t go. Most of the modifications are presented as armored components to protect the Land Cruiser’s body from obstacles, including skid plates as well as what appears to be a slight lift kit and more aggressive off-road rubber.
But Modellista mostly wants to underline the fact that most of the truck’s modifications were designed to beautifully blend with the Land Cruiser’s original design. On top of fitting more aggressive front and rear bumpers that further accentuate the Land Cruiser’s bold, retro look, Modellista says it also played around with LED lighting to further enhance the truck’s iconic design. Robust side-carrying containers were also penned to blend well with the Land Cruiser’s design, while a rear, central-mounted ladder lets you access your roof-mounted tent in a jiffy.
We’ll see how well this concept vehicle will be received by the American people attending SEMA. If Modellista does indeed manage to penetrate the U.S. market, we could expect some pretty rad overlanding off-road rigs come out of Toyota Motor North America in the near future.
