Ponsse North America, Inc. held their annual Mechanic Competition last week in Rhinelander, where service and field technicians from Michigan and Wisconsin participated.
The competition consisted of strict evaluations on skilled stations and hands on troubleshooting on actual machines that had intentionally simulated malfunctions.
Randy Ostrom a Ponsse member of the global support team for dealer support and training said not only is this competition a lot of fun, but it’s a great way to showcase and celebrate skilled mechanics and motivate their continued growth within the industry.
“Finishing in the top was a field service technician we have working in our Gladstone location in Gladstone, MI his name is Jake Yust. A close 2nd place by a half a point was a fella name Jack Sanders who is also field service technician in our Gladstone Location. Proudly we have Nate Shepard here that was able to take 3rd place in the competition and he’s a Rhinelander shop technician,” said Ostrom.
The upcoming international competition will be held in June of 2025 in Varma Finland where 1st place winner Jake Yust will be competing against technicians from all around the world including Africa, Europe, South America and China. Local 3rd place winner Nate Shepard said he’s grateful for the experience in the competition and takes pride in his placement.
“You kind of touch of base on stuff that you might need to do a little more learning on get some more education on. Its good for the trainers to observe this too, what were able to do and what we need more work with, as a whole I think it’s a really good training opportunity for us,” said Shepard.
Ostrom said its great opportunity for all the technicians to come together from all different locations and enjoy themselves, while understanding that training is a progressive development of their career path.
“We intentionally make this competition difficult to challenge our guys and we like that challenge, and we like to see how they do with that challenge,” said Ostrom.
