When it comes to picking the right place to call home, ‘livability’ is likely something that many prioritize. Livability can be defined as a combination of various factors the contribute to a happy life, whether that’s access to nature, affordability, safety… the list goes on.
A company called Rent Cafe recently tackled this topic in a data analysis, comparing 139 metro areas around the United States across 17 different metrics to determine what places are the most ‘livable.’ And a Colorado city just so happened to rank among the top 20 spots nationwide.
The 17 metrics included in the data analysis fell into three key categories: Socioeconomic Rank, Quality of Life Rank, and Location & Community Rank, with scores of the latter two categories weighted at 40% to the former’s 20%.
While Portland, Maine ended up at the top of the country’s ‘most livable’ spots, Colorado Springs ended up ranking 14th overall – the only Centennial State city to be included in Rent Cafe’s top 20. Colorado Springs ranked 46th overall when it came to socioeconomic-related metrics, but ranked 19th in terms of ‘quality of life’ metrics and 31st in terms of ‘location & community’ metrics. Two ‘quality of life’ metrics where the city performed exceptionally well were ‘share of physically inactive’ (just 16.4% – second lowest among the top 20 spots) and ‘share of residents with access to exercise opportunities’ (87.4%).
The only other Colorado city to be included in the data analysis was Denver, which ended up ranking 38th overall.
The high ranking of Colorado Springs is likely met with no surprise from local residents. After all, the city was ranked as the ‘3rd-best place to live in America’ by US News and World Report earlier this year.
Do you think Colorado Springs should be considered one of the top 20 ‘most livable’ places in America? Let us know in the comments.
