HATTIESBURG — The perfect picture had been painted for Hattiesburg football.
It was undefeated entering the MHSAA Class 6A championship. The title game was played at Southern Miss’ M. M. Roberts Stadium on Saturday night, walking distance from the high school.
However, there wasn’t a fairytale ending.
Hattiesburg (13-1) lost 43-14 to Grenada (14-1), extending its title drought to 101 seasons. The championship for Grenada is its first in program history.
Hattiesburg’s offense had a hot start, scoring touchdowns on its first two drives for a 14-7 lead. Grenada’s defense dominated the rest of the game, keeping Hattiesburg from scoring any more points and allowing just 82 yards in the final three quarters.
Grenada senior running back Macaleb Taylor won the game’s MVP with 211 rushing yards and four touchdowns, more yards than Hattiesburg had as a team.

Hattiesburg vs Grenada score updates
Grenada is routing Hattiesburg, taking a 43-14 lead with 4:02 to play.
Macaleb Taylor scored his fourth touchdown of the game with 7:37 remaining.
Macaleb Taylor scored his third touchdown of the game on a two-yard rush with 7:58 remaining in the third quarter.
Grenada wide receiver Zayion Cotton caught a 10-yard touchdown on fourth down to extend the lead with 1:09 to play in the second quarter.
Macaleb Taylor scored his second touchdown of the half on a one-yard rush. The extra point was no good.
Brayden Neathery kicked a 37-yard field goal with 6:50 left in the second quarter.
Hattiesburg quarterback Deuce Vance scored his second touchdown of the first quarter. The Tigers also converted a two-point conversion with 1:40 remaining in the first quarter.
Grenada scored on its first possession too with a Macaleb Taylor five-yard rushing touchdown with four minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The Tigers scored on their opening drive on a two-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Deuce Vance with 7:08 left in the first quarter. The extra point was no good.
