KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — Malaysia’s wholesale and retail trade sales value rose 5.4 percent year on year to 146 billion ringgit (32.6 billion U.S. dollars) in June, official data showed Thursday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the growth was driven by the retail trade subsector, which rose 7.9 percent to 64.1 billion ringgit.
Wholesale trade went up by 4 percent to 64.9 billion ringgit, while that for motor vehicles grew 2 percent to 17 billion ringgit.
For monthly comparison, wholesale and retail trade experienced a slight decline of 1.3 percent from the previous month, due to a decrease for motor vehicles at 9.4 percent. (1 ringgit equals 0.22 U.S. dollars)
