Qantas has discounted more than 50,000 seats to destinations across North and South America in announcing its newest service to the United States.
The flying kangaroo confirmed on Tuesday it will launch flights between Melbourne and Honolulu from early May next year.
The Airbus A330 service, which will operate three times per week, will be Qantas’ second Hawaii route as it already flies between Sydney and Honolulu.
Qantas will take over the Melbourne to Honolulu route from its budget offshoot Jetstar, with the low cost carrier’s twice weekly flights to end in late April.
The Boeing 787 Jetstar currently deploys on the service will be used for another long-haul route, Qantas said. Jetstar will continue to fly between Sydney and Honolulu.
Honolulu will be the third destination in the United States that Qantas will fly to from Melbourne, alongside Los Angeles and Dallas.
Qantas will be the only airline with non-stop flights from Melbourne to Honolulu. Hawaiian Airlines only flies to Sydney.
“We are thrilled to continue to enhance our network in America with the launch of a new route from Melbourne to Honolulu, bringing a new, tropical destination to our Melbourne customers,” Qantas CEO International Cam Wallace said.
As part of Qantas’ seven-day North and South America Red Tail Sale, economy return fares from Melbourne to Honolulu are being offered from $1,049, premium economy from $2,399 and business from $5,699.
