Lionel Messi and Argentina have Peru, Chile and Canada on their Copa America 2024 schedule. This is Angel Di Maria’s last international tournament and could very well be Messi’s last too.
Argentina have the most continuity of any side in the tournament. All 11 players who started the 2022 World Cup Final, which Argentina won in penalties, are available for selection.
World Cup and Copa America winning coach Lionel Scaloni is also still around. So, it’s no surprise that Argentina are -400 favorites to win the group. Second place will be enough for any side to make the knockout stage and Chile, who won the 2016 Copa America in the USA, are most likely to do so.
Alexis Sanchez and Eduardo Vargas are aging but the two-time Copa America winners are back for one last shot at intercontinental glory.
Peru is currently the only winless team in South American World Cup qualifiers but they’re still ahead of Canada on the odds board. Peru show +1000 2024 Copa America odds to win Group A but their best years are behind them.
Canada could be an intriguing team to watch in their first Copa America appearance. They made the World Cup in 2022 and have some talented players like Alphonso Davies, Tajon Buchanan and Jonathan David.
However, recently appointed coach Jesse Marsch will only have friendlies vs the Netherlands and France to prepare. Canada come in at +1200 odds to win the group.
2024 Copa America Group B Odds
The Group B winner will take on the Group A runner up in the Quarter-Finals, while the Group B runner up will meet with the Group A winner. Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela and Jamaica will all be gunning for the top spot to avoid an early potential knockout stage encounter with Argentina.
Mexico, 2023 Gold Cup Champions, are +110 favorites in the most unpredictable group. In some unfortunate Copa America 2024 news, Ecuador left back Pervis Estupiñán will miss the Copa America with an ankle injury.
Still, Ecuador have talented defenders like Willian Pacho and Piero Hincapie and the likes of Moises Caicedo. They are priced at +160 odds to win Group B and could certainly make the knockout stage.
Venezuela are the biggest wildcard in the group. They’ve lost just one of their first six games in World Cup qualifiers and are playing with confidence. Venezuela are +550 underdogs to win the group but have qualified for the knockout stage in two of the last three Copa Americas.
Jamaica’s best player, Leon Bailey, is taking a break from the national team due to the Jamaica Football Federation’s “unprofessionalism”. It’s a blow for the Reggae Boyz, who are priced at just +900 odds to win Group B.
2024 Copa America Group C Odds
Uruguay’s national team is stacked and they’ve beaten both Argentina and Brazil in the last year alone. Luis Suarez is returning to the squad for the 2024 Copa America but Darwin Nuñez is capable of leading the line, even after a frustrating campaign for Liverpool.
In midfield, Uruguay have big name players like Fede Valverde, Manuel Ugarte and Rodrigo Bentancur. They’re -135 favorites to win Group C.
This is one of the most favorable Copa America 2024 groups to be in and both Uruguay and the USA will be kicking themselves if they don’t advance. The last time they participated in the Copa America – in 2016, the USA reached the Semifinals.
This is one of the best USA squads of recent memory and they should be competitive in the group. Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie had stellar seasons in Italy and USA can call on any of Ricardo Pepi, Folarin Balogun and Haji Wright up front. USA come in at +135 odds to win the group.
Bolivia (+1600) have the weakest squad of any team in South America and have lost their last 11 Copa America group stage games. Panama (+1600) have had their moments over the last few years but it’s difficult to see them finishing above either Uruguay or the USA.
2024 Copa America Group D Odds
Brazil are heavy favorites to win Group D, at -250 odds, despite their recent form. Brazil have lost their last three competitive matches for the first time since 2001.
Brazil’s 1-0 loss to Argentina last November was also their first-ever World Cup qualifying loss on home soil. Since then, Brazil have appointed Dorival Junior as head coach and they beat England and drew vs Spain in friendlies.
Defender Eder Militao has returned from an ACL injury, while Brazil have plenty of exciting attacking talents. Vinicius Junior will be a surefire starter but it’ll be difficult for Dorival Junior to decide between Rodrygo, Raphinha, Gabriel Martinelli and 17-year old phenomenon Endrick.
The match between Brazil and Colombia will likely decide the Group D winner. Colombia remain the only team with an unbeaten record in CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers and they have the quality to make a deep run.
Luis Diaz is a player to watch, as he scored four goals in the last edition of the Copa America.
Paraguay are +1200 underdogs to win Group D and it’s unclear where their goals will come from. Costa Rica are undergoing a painful transitional period and it’s not a surprise they show the longest odds (+1800) of any team in the tournament to win their group.
2024 Copa America Outrights
Argentina have the most stable team in the tournament so their +175 2024 Copa America odds might not look half bad to punters. Lionel Messi is still scoring goals and that shouldn’t change in what could be his last major tournament.
Brazil (+225) are a risky pick. On one hand, they have one of the most talented teams in the tournament. On the other, they’ve been a disaster in World Cup Qualifiers and, dare we say, seem to lack an identity.
Uruguay have all of the tools to go far in the tournament. If Darwin Nuñez can find his shooting boots, Uruguay could be lifting the trophy in Miami come July. They show +500 odds to win the tournament and have an experienced coach, in Marcelo Bielsa.
Mexico show the fourth-best odds to win the Copa America, at +1100, which may come as a surprise. El Tri have had precious few moments to celebrate over the last few years and have few players plying their trade abroad.
The USA have the benefit of playing on home soil here. We doubt they’ll be able to string together enough results to win the tournament but they are capable of taking down one of the South American giants on a one-off. USA show +1200 outright odds.
Ecuador are the only other team with shorter than +2000 odds to win Copa America 2024. However, their task will be much more difficult without all-time leading scorer Enner Valencia.
Chile (+2800), Peru (+5000), Venezuela (+6600) and Canada (+6600) are some of the more notable longshots for what should be a thrilling tournament.
