Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris will face off in Alabama for the state’s nine Electoral College votes. Trump’s pitch to voters has focused on the economy, immigration and crime. Harris, since taking over as the Democratic standard-bearer after President Joe Biden dropped out, has argued she would usher in a new era and has campaigned on improving the care economy, protecting abortion rights and guarding democracy. The conservative state voted to back Trump in the last two elections. In 2020, Trump won Alabama with 62% of the vote to Joe Biden’s 37%. In 2016, Trump won Alabama with 63% to Hillary Clinton’s 35%. The state is considered a Republican stronghold and last voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in 1976.
