A Vibrant Celebration of South America

Wednesday was a day of dazzling colours and joyous celebrations as Pre-Prep hosted a spectacular Carnival Day, keeping the South American Arts Week theme alive and kicking.

Children arrived at school in an array of bright, vibrant outfits that perfectly captured the festive spirit of the occasion. From the moment they stepped through the school gates, the excitement was palpable, with pupils and teachers alike brimming with enthusiasm for the day’s events.

The day was meticulously planned to ensure that every child had the opportunity to immerse themselves fully in the South American theme. Throughout the day, the children rotated through a carousel of engaging activities, each designed to educate and entertain. They kicked off with Spanish lessons, where they picked up basic phrases and greetings, embracing the language with eager curiosity.

Next up was a dance session that had everyone moving to the infectious rhythms of traditional South American music. The children learned basic dance steps and routines, which they performed with joy and energy, filling the School with vibrant sounds and movements. This was followed by a creative mask-making workshop: here, pupils crafted their own colourful masks, adorned with feathers, glitter, and sequins, each one a unique masterpiece reflecting the pupil’s creativity and imagination.

The outdoor activities continued with a spirited game of Futsal on the field. The children demonstrated teamwork and sportsmanship, revelling in the friendly competition. The sounds of laughter and cheering echoed across the field, adding to the day’s festive atmosphere.

As the day drew to a close, the excitement reached its peak with the crowning of the Carnival Kings and Queen. The grand finale took place on the hard surface, where cupcakes with hidden Jelly Babies added an element of surprise and anticipation. The lucky pupils who found the Jelly Babies in their cupcakes were awarded the prestigious crowns and titles.

…And the crowning glory went to:

Reception: Mathilda
Year 1: Charles
Year 2: Frank

Each of these pupils proudly donned their crowns, basking in the cheers and applause from their peers. The crowning ceremony was a highlight of the day, with the new Kings and Queen standing tall, embodying the spirit of Carnival.

Overall, Carnival Day was a resounding success, filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable moments. It was a fabulous day enjoyed by all, leaving everyone with memories that will last a lifetime. The event not only celebrated South American culture but also brought the school community closer together, highlighting the importance of cultural appreciation and unity.

The joy and excitement of Carnival Day will be remembered by pupils and teachers alike, marking a wonderful chapter in the School’s ongoing celebration of diversity and learning.
