2024 Copa America semifinal odds, preview & picksÂ
Argentina will square off against Canada at 8 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals, and as expected, are heavy favorites. Canada, participating in its first Copa America, has not scored much – but has dominated their opposition defensively.
This will be the second meeting between these sides in the tournament, with Argentina topping Canada 2-0 in the group stage to open the tournament a couple of weeks ago.Â
Uruguay stunned Brazil in the quarterfinal round of the Copa America tournament Saturday, punching their ticket to the semifinals with a 4-2 penalty shootout win. They are now set to face James Rodriguez and Colombia at 8 p.m. Wednesday, in a match that has the potential to be an absolute thriller.Â
Jesse Marsch’s Canadian side has enjoyed a Cinderella summer, but that likely comes to a close against Argentina.
While Lionel Messi remains scoreless in the tournament – and missed a penalty kick against Ecuador in the last round – he’s been picked up by the performance of Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, who has found the back of the net four times in the Copa America and relieved some pressure off Messi.Â
Canada has been stout defensively throughout the tournament but does not have the class to stop the offensive prowess of Argentina. Their current run should absolutely be lauded – remaining as the final North American squad is not something that would have been predicted pre-tournament.
Beating Venezuela on penalties to advance to the semifinals is one thing, but defeating the defending Copa America champions and World No. 1 is another.
Argentina is a heavy favorite on the moneyline, but adding an alternate total of under 3.5 goals pulls the odds down to -115 for both legs. Argentina won 2-0 when these teams met to kick off the tournament. La Celeste has not reached the Copa America final since 2011, where they last won the tournament. Expect them to harness their goal scoring ability to make a statement against foe Colombia.
