Argentina vs Canada, the opening game of Copa America, is a sell out, the tournament confirmed on Wednesday.
The defending champions — led by Lionel Messi — will take on Jesse Marsch’s CANMNT in the first game of the competition on Thursday night with more than 70,000 set to be in attendance at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
The game kicks off at 8pm ET (1am BST).
“Selling all the tickets for the opening match highlights the significance of this football celebration,” CONMEBOL president Alejandro Dominguez said.
“We hope that fans will enjoy this tournament from start to finish, which we have structured to ensure a unique and world-class experience”.
The Copa America Centenario — the 100th edition held in the U.S. in 2016 — featured some of the highest-attended matches in the tournament’s history.

A look at ticket sale projections for Copa America
That year, a group-stage game at the Rose Bowl between Mexico and Jamaica featured a record crowd of 83,263, while 82,026 fans attended the final between Argentina and Chile at MetLife Stadium.
By contrast only 14,334 fans watched Costa Rica and Paraguay at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, while Haiti and Peru attracted only 20,190 in Seattle at Lumen Field.
Ticket sales were also a concern at Copa America in Brazil in 2019, with organizers later blaming errors in the ticketing process.
The 2024 edition of Copa America includes 10 teams from CONMEBOL — the governing body in South America — and six invited teams from CONCACAF, the North, Central American and Caribbean confederation.
Argentina are defending champions having lifted the trophy last time out, in 2021. Argentina and Uruguay share the record for most titles with 15.
