How did Colombia and Argentina get to the Final?
Defending champions, Argentina played the opening match of the tournament against debutant Canada, winning 2-0 on June 20. Then they defeated Chile 1-0 and secured early qualification in Group A. They ended their participation in the Group Stage with another 2-0 victory, this time over Peru.
In the Quarterfinals, Lionel Scaloni’s men faced off against Ecuador, with whom they drew 1-1 before winning on penalties 4-2. Finally, they overcame Canada in the semi-final rematch with another 2-0 to reach their fourth Final in five editions.
Colombia arrived at the tournament and soon confirmed its great momentum, winning the opening of Group D against Paraguay by 2-1. They beat Costa Rica 3-0 (also qualifying in advance) and drew 1-1 with Brazil to confirm the lead in their group. In the knockout phase, Néstor Lorenzo’s team had the biggest victory of the 2024 edition against Panama (5-0) and won the battle with Uruguay 1-0 to reach their third Final in history – and set a record for the longest undefeated streak of the team in history (28 matches).
