Ex Inter Milan Midfielder Praises Argentina World Cup Winner: “A True Leader”
Former Inter Milan star Evaristo Beccalossi heaps praise on Lautaro Martinez, describing him as a genuine leader.
The Argentine has been plying his trade at Appiano Gentile since 2018. He gradually established himself as the main talisman at the club.
In the summer of 2023, the 27-year-old inherited the captain’s armband following the departures of Samir Handanovic along with a host of senior players.
Lautaro’s first season as club captain was a magical one. He led the club towards the coveted second star while finishing as the league’s top-scorer. He also received the Serie A MVP Award for his exploits.
Moreover, the striker rounded off his season by scoring the winner for Argentina in the Copa America final against Colombia.
So despite the strong competition for places, the former Racing Club star has cemented himself as a key player in the Abliceleste squad.
Martinez entered the pitch as a substitute in last night’s 1-1 draw against Venezuela. Nevertheless, Argentina are still leading the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying group.
The reigning world champions will be the heavy favorites to beat Bolivia on Tuesday according to all major betting sources, including VulkanSpiele online bookmaker.
And for his part, Martinez could well be in the starting lineup.
As for Beccalossi, he admits that the Argentine might not be the typical Number 10, but he still looks good with the iconic number on his back.
Evaristo Beccalossi Hails Inter Milan Captain Lautaro Martinez As True Leader
The former Nerazzurri midfielder lauds the club captain for his strong personality and leadership skills.
“Lautaro is a goalscorer, but let’s leave him the number 10!” said the 68-year-old while chatting with reporters during the Trento Sports festival (via Tutto Mercato Web).
“He doesn’t have the creativity, that role requires different characteristics. And in any case, he’s fine with the number 10 on, he’s a true leader. Let’s not create needless problems.”
Beccalossi is also familiar with Monza’s rising star Daniel Maldini having been the head of the Italy Under-19 and Under-20 delegations. The player has been recently linked with Inter.
Therefore, he reckons that the 22-year-old has great talent, but struggled with his surname at first.
“You could see that Daniel had talent, but he did well to improve his skillset.
“He had the biggest problem at the beginning because of his heavy surname (the son of Paolo Maldini and grandson of Cesare Maldini).
“But he did well thanks to his humility, as he got to the bottom of things and now he’s doing great.”
