Buenos Aires | Argentina’s libertarian president Javier Milei has been buffeted by a scandal over his promotion of a meme coin that soared in value before collapsing, triggering impeachment calls and lawsuits.
Milei promoted a cryptocurrency called $LIBRA on X on Friday night, which had begun trading minutes earlier. Within hours, the coin’s value more than quadrupled, making the total outstanding amount worth $US4 billion ($6.3 billion). It then crashed, handing speculators large losses.
