The series was one of the few early productions that earned worldwide fame; even after so many years, it has still managed to hold the fort. There are many regions where the Dragon Ball narrative, or rather some specific aspects of the story, does not sit well with their rules and regulations. One of those regions was Argentina, the second-largest country in South America. Dragon Ball fans might not know this, but the series has been banned in Argentina for almost three years, and the reason behind this ban is none other than Master Roshi.
Master Roshi might be famous for his title as the God of Martial Arts, but he is also established as a certified pervert in the story. This aspect of his character was exploited in one of the Dragon Ball Super’s episodes, which became a big controversy and thus resulted in the series getting banned.
Master Roshi’s Pervertedness in Dragon Ball
Although Master Roshi is one of the most popular and powerful characters in the series, he is often viewed as an anomaly because of his lecherous attitude towards women. Since the start of the series, it has been made very clear that Master Roshi is a pervert, and although it was used as comic relief, fans still got uncomfortable because of his antics.
He is often seen making sexual advancements over almost every female character in Dragon Ball. Not only that, his lewd comments and actions have led to him getting thrashed by characters like Bulma and Chi-Chi. Also, his pervertedness often undermines his role as the master of martial arts.
This is viewed from the fact that he lost the right to travel on the Flying Nimbus, as it can only be ridden by someone with a pure heart. This proves that ever since Master Roshi developed his lecherous personality, he has lost some part of his wisdom and his good nature.
Master Roshi Got Dragon Ball Super Banned in Argentina
When the Tournament of Power was about to start, Master Roshi knew that his perversion could cause him to lose a fight. Thus, he decides to overcome his lecherous behavior by asking Puar to turn into a woman and stop him from advancing towards him until he is able to master his weakness. It took him a lot of time, but Master Roshi ultimately managed to overcome his lewd attitude.
However, this aspect of the episode was not particularly liked by the Ministry of Women, Gender Policies, and Sexual Diversity in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. They tweeted to the Department of Public Defense to take down the episode because of Master Roshi’s sexual advancement towards Puar, who was considered a minor.
This tweet grabbed major attention as Dragon Ball was widely popular in South America, and the Government of Buenos Aires released a press release talking about banning the episode. This ban became a major turning point for Dragon Ball Super, as the entire series eventually faced a loss because Cartoon Network and Warner Media decided to take down the entire series from Argentinian media.
