Tourism in Argentina Increased by 23%

Official data recorded that in the first two months, more than 1.5 million people visited Argentina, generating an economic impact that exceeded 1.2 billion dollars.

In recent years, tourism in Argentina has experienced significant growth, particularly in terms of international visitors. This increase can be attributed to the country’s diverse range of attractions, from the stunning landscapes of Patagonia to the vibrant culture of Buenos Aires, and the economic advantage resulting from the currency’s devaluation, which allows foreigners to spend and shop more favorably compared to previous times.

According to a report by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (Indec), the number of foreigners visiting the country reached 13.4 million last year, marking an impressive 85.8% increase compared to 2022. Of this figure, 6.7 million were tourists, representing an 85.7% increase from the previous year.

However, not all visitors stayed overnight. Approximately 6.6 million, 85.8% more than in 2022, were day-trippers, meaning they entered Argentine territory but did not spend the night. This category of visitors is particularly relevant in border cities or for day trips to Buenos Aires, whether by air, land, or river.

The report also highlighted the increase in outbound tourism from Argentina, revealing that 11 million residents left in 2023, representing a 40.6% increase.

As of the beginning of 2024, tourism in Argentina has shown signs of recovery. For instance, in the first two months, 1,555,300 million people arrived in the country from abroad, which is a 23.7% increase from 2023. This generated an economic income of approximately 1,232 million dollars.

Most tourists who visited Argentina in the first two months came from neighboring countries, including Chile, Brazil, and Uruguay. Additionally, there was a notable presence of visitors from the United States, accounting for approximately 10% of the total.

Notably, Brazilian arrivals to Argentina witnessed a significant upswing of 30% compared to the same period in the previous year. Air travel emerged as the preferred mode of transport for these visitors, indicating the growing accessibility and attractiveness of Argentina as a tourist destination.
