Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister put in a full shift as Argentina edged past Chile with a 1-0 victory on Tuesday, securing the country's spot in the Copa America quarter-finals.

Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan bagged the decisive goal late in the game, ensuring Argentina's perfect start in Group A continues following its initial win over Canada. Having played every minute of Argentina's campaign so far, Mac Allister might be given a breather in the upcoming group match against Peru, with progression to the next round already in the bag.

Reflecting on the hard-fought win against Chile, where he was deployed in a more defensive role, Liverpool's No. 10 shared: "It was a very tough game, we knew it was going to be like that. Chile is a team against which these games are like a war.

"It was a great spectacle. We gave 100 percent and we ended up winning. The important thing is to be up to the task of this kind of match, with our fans cheering us on. We did it, we suffered a bit because they did too, but we won.

"It was a decent match, we know that we can play much better with the ball. I was playing as a number 5 and often ended up next to Leo (Messi), putting pressure on him. It got a bit complicated and messy, but the Copa America is like that, that's why it's so nice."

Argentinian sports outlet Ole analysed Mac Allister's performance, stating: "Unlike the match against Canada, in which he played as an interior on the left (Paredes was the central midfielder and Di Maria was the starter), this Tuesday the 25-year-old moved quite close to Enzo Fernandez, practically sharing the axis in many moments in central midfield - something that both know how to do perfectly. They have played together since the World Cup and they know when each one has to stand further forward or further back."

They gave him a player rating of 6.5, adding: "Good high pressure to recover near Bravo's area. At times he lacked more clarity and depth with the ball at his feet. He was facing the goal at the beginning of the game, but did not push."

TyC Sports also reviewed Mac Allister's game, awarding him a player rating of 7 and commenting: "He played as a 5, taking control of the middle from the 20's. He made everything simple and well. Solid game by Alexis."
