What happened in past editions of Finalissima?
The tournament was first held in 1985, with France, the winner of the 1984 European Championship, facing Uruguay, the 1983 Copa América champion. The match ended with a 2-0 victory for the French.
After that initial edition, the competition was not seen again until 1993, under the name Copa Artemio Franchi. That year, Argentina hosted a match against Denmark, who failed to secure a victory for Europe as a certain Diego Maradona helped his team to the win.
