Hurdles produce another Olympic gold for America
A time of 12.33 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles crowned Russell victorious in the 2024 Paris Olympic games, which was also her Olympic debut. Eight days later, she returned to Lexington still in shock over her victory.

“A little bit. Not really. So it’s like yeah, but no, but yeah, it’s like I see the gold medal, but it’s like did I really do that,” Russell said when asked if is has sunk in yet that she’s an Olympic gold medalist.
Kentucky held a media availability on Monday morning at the Jim Green Track & Field Center with head coach Lonnie Green, Russell, and Team Bahamas Olympian and UK volunteer coach Devynne Charlton.
“I think when people see the finished product, they make it look so easy. But in reality, that’s a whole lot of work, whole lot of time they put into it, you know, for these babies you’re looking at training for four years just to run for 12 seconds, you know. So that’s a commitment,” Greene said.
These were the winners and losers on the track in Paris
“I just tell coach Greene all the time like it was just like yesterday I was a freshman just listening to everything he said, like, Yes, Coach. Saying yes, Coach. It’s just crazy because I’m living out like my dreams, truly,” Russell said.
Russell beat out Charlton, who finished 6th representing Bahamas, and Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, who finished 3rd representing Puerto Rico and ran at Kentucky.
