The Bahamas Pickleball Federation announced that Team Bahamas will compete in the Pickleball World Cup in Lima, Peru, on October 26-27. The event will take place at the Legado venue, sports village in Peru.

Team Bahamas consists of 13 members: Kelly Ann Meade (Federation President), Erika Knowles (Vice President), Kim Kooskalis (Federation Treasurer), Justyn Thompson, Brezile Hamilton, Afrika Smith, Ed Turner, Kevaughn Ferguson, Sean Fitzpatrick, Sierra Donaldson, Cochise Burrows, Michael Clarke, and Robert Griffin.

Kelly Ann Meade, the federation president, spoke about the rapid expansion of the sport “Pickleball is expanding rapidly in The Bahamas. All major hotels now have courts such as Sandals, Atlantis, Baha Mar, and also on the Family Islands, with the lure to ‘Come Pickle in Paradise.’ As pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the world, The Bahamas is a perfect destination for pickle enthusiasts. We have the sunny weather, beautiful weather, and are an easy trip from North America. Moreover, the sport continues to expand with locals expressing interest as they see it’s a game befitting all ages and all athletic levels. It’s easy to learn, fun to play, and also great for socialization.”

The team members practice daily in their communities, while the professionals teach and play every day. The World Cup marks their first international tournament, and the team aims to represent The Bahamas with pride. “Hard to know expectations as it is our very first international tournament, that just happens to be a big one with it being the World Cup. We solely intend to go over there, represent our country as best as we can by playing our best while enjoying ourselves,” Meade added.

Meade said that “Atlantis as approached us to do a a pre-tournament event on October 19th. This tournament will be Atlantis’s inaugural pickleball event, featuring six new courts. The Federation team and local pickleballers will participate.”

As Team Bahamas prepares for the World Cup, and pickleball growing rapidly in The Bahamas, the team aims to make a strong impression in Lima.
