Rihanna Claps Back at People Critiquing Her Voting Joke: ‘Shut Up Karen’

Rihanna

Rihanna had some fiery comebacks for people who thought her joke about voting was problematic.

On Monday, RiRi took to Instagram to share a clip of her wistfully looking out a car window with the overlaid text, “POV: me trying to sneak into the polls with my son’s passport.”

It’s clear that the mother of two wishes she could vote in this year’s presidential election. In the video’s caption, she wrote, “When protecting pussies and firing pussies can happen all in one vote #votecauseicant.” Rihanna is still a citizen of Barbados, while her sons, RZA and Riot Rose, are US citizens.

But some people took Rihanna’s light-hearted joke too seriously. Critics took to the comments, with one writing, “That attitude is why we want to make America great again. You want to cheat to win. So disappointing,” to which the pop star responded, “lol! When you stop burning ballot boxes come check me.”

Another IG user remarked, “Illegal voting is a crime. Maybe she should be arrested for trying,” which prompted the Anti artist to say, “Shut up Karen.”

Rihanna continued to clap back at the haters. In response to a person who told her to “Stick to music sis,” she wrote, “Where were you in Jan 6 sis? Stick to your discounted crotch. We out here fighting for its rights!”

While Rihanna hasn’t outright shown her support for Kamala Harris , it’s pretty clear that the singer would support the current vice president if she could vote. The 36-year-old has been passionately anti-Donald Trump and has shown her approval for the Democratic party in the past. Rihanna’s message comes on the last day of the 2024 elections.
