This isn’t the first time Rihanna, who is not a U.S. citizen and thus can’t vote, has encouraged American voters to exercise their right to franchise. In 2018, the Grammy winner similarly took to social media to encourage her fans to vote during the midterm elections.
“It’s ELECTION DAY America!!! The most important day for the rest of your lives…all you have is right now! TODAY!!” she wrote. “If you’re tired of complaining about the state of the country and government, get up and do something about it!!! #VOTE … simple!!! You have no excuse, and If you live in any of these states it’s not too late to register today!! C’mon man, LETS GO!!!!!”
Prior to the 2020 election, Rihanna also shared an Instagram post in which she urged her fans to check their “voter registration status, register, and VOTE!!!”
“If you can, work those polls too…let’s go! Follow @claralionelfdn for updates and info on the easiest steps to vote! #NationalVoterRegistrationDay” she added.
Several reports indicate that Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will closely contest this year’s U.S. presidential election. Both candidates have received several endorsements from celebrities and other high-profile figures.
