Closure solution provider BERICAP has announced new plants in Nairobi (Kenya), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and acquired production facilities in Lima (Peru) and Durban (South Africa).
The company operates 30 production sites in 25 countries, aiming to be close to its customers in terms of project support, logistics and services. It says the new 3,500 m² facility in Nairobi/Kenya makes the localization of the commercial business possible.
Closures for the lubricant industry and food and beverage manufacturers will be produced there and also exported to ten African countries.
BERICAP recently invested in another plant in Africa and now also has operations in South Africa. The closure business BERICAP acquired was a division of Nampak, a company BERICAP has had a technological partnership with since 1998 for the South African market.
The production facility in Durban started trading as BERICAP South Africa (PTY) LTD in March 2024. BERICAP South Africa will be marketing the entire BERICAP closure portfolio, as well as the locally manufactured closures, in South Africa and neighbouring countries.
Peru is BERICAP’s fourth production site in Latin America and is said to also allow good access to Bolivia, the northern part of Chile and Ecuador, totalling around 60 million consumers. The new 5,000 m² production facility is situated in Lima with 50 employees. The BERICAP team in Peru is supported by the teams at BERICAP do Brazil and BERICAP Argentina.
In September 2023, BERICAP set up a production site in Vietnam, targeting the region’s market potential for closure solutions in the beverages, dairy products, food and chemical products sectors. Production commenced in mid-October and the plant has reportedly passed all mandatory external audits.
Earlier this year, BERICAP collaborated with TotalEnergies Lubrifiants to incorporate 50% post-consumer recycled plastic into a closure for 20-litre lubricant packaging, a move intended to reduce virgin plastic consumption. BERICAP sources the raw material from TotalEnergies’ RE:clic range of circular polymers, hoping for similar performance to virgin materials by applying a ‘high-performing’ booster to mechanically recycled polyethylene.
In similar news, Aptar Closures has announced a new e-commerce-capable locking disc top closure which is reportedly fully recyclable when paired with a PE or PET bottle. The Future Disc Top closure is the first in a series of three disc top dispensing solutions the company will introduce globally this year for beauty, personal care and home care applications.
