The best beaches in Bermuda

Nothing is more synonymous with Bermuda than its pink sand beaches—a rosy hue created by tiny, single-cell organisms called foraminfera, which shed their red outer shells that, in turn, get pulverised into grains of powdery sand. And while all of Bermuda’s beaches are blissfully pink, not all of them are the same. Some stretches boast strong currents and powerful surf, while others have shallow, sandy bottoms perfect for families and young children. A handful of Bermuda’s largest beaches have lifeguards, restaurants and bathing facilities, while others are small secluded coves, where you’ll nary see another soul. These are our favourites.

Horseshoe Bay Beach

Considered to be one of the world’s finest slices of pink sand, this sprawling beach in Southampton Parish is Bermuda’s grand dame. It’s also the island’s most popular—one that’s typically packed with cruise ship passengers in summer. But considering cruise lines are not expected to return to Bermuda for the foreseeable future, this quarter mile-long crescent will be free of the crowds that commonly flock there each year. You’ll find lifeguard stands and facilities like bathrooms, showers and changing rooms. It’s also one of the few beaches in Bermuda where you can buy food, snacks and alcoholic beverages.
