Bermuda’s cuisine has long been a mix of English pub grub, Caribbean-inspired soul food and traditional continental dishes found in the US and Europe. These days the island has completely upped its food game, especially at restaurants with breezy, al fresco patios, which were first to welcome back guests following a four-week shutdown in April and a phased reopening in May and June.
But beyond the fare that can be found at most big city restaurants, what Bermuda does really well is fresh, local fish, most of which is caught the same day by local anglers. The best advice? Ask what’s been biting wherever you can score a table and dig into the daily seafood specials.
Mickey’s Beach Bistro
If you’re searching for table within eyeshot of the ocean, you can’t possibly get better than this beachfront restaurant, which sits directly on the pink sands of Elbow Beach in Paget Parish. In fact, Mickey’s is a mere 20 yards from the surf, making it the perfect place for long breezy lunches or romantic, al fresco dinners. Here you can expect Italian-inspired preparations of local seafood, like the tuna carpaccio with courgette spaghetti, salad, capers and black salt, or the Mediterranean style snapper with black olives and oregano.
