La Paz (Agenzia Fides) – “It is necessary and urgent to create a new educational horizon that helps us to walk together, educational authorities, teachers, students, parents and thus to undertake a new educational management that allows everyone to re-educate themselves. Only in this way will education be a space of convergence, encounter and reconciliation. We educators must set an example for children and young people in the search for peace and common work”. Here is an excerpt from the press release issued at the end of the VI National Educational Meeting of the Plurinational Education System which took place on December 17 and 18 on the theme: “For the recovery of the right to education for all”.
The text entitled “A new education for the good of our children and young people” underlines that, since the VI Meeting, promoted by the Education Area of the Bolivian Episcopal Conference and by the Catholic Educational Institutions, it emerged among other things that “Bolivian society does not need political-ideological manifestos, but rather an education that teaches to live and find in itself a reason for hope”.
The results of the assessment carried out by the Ministry of Education “should make us think seriously”, the statement said. The low level of education in the country should push the competent authorities to promote a series of measures and resources in accordance with those present in the political constitution, “which place education as an essential objective for the development of the country”. It is urgent to take serious measures, to create a technological and virtual infrastructure, to improve teacher training and to offer students major possibilities of access to new technologies.
Sharing the guidelines of the “Global Educational Pact” launched by Pope Francis last October, the Catholic educational institutions of Bolivia affirm in their statement that they want to be united “in the spirit of true educators, to offer our students the best integral formation that allows them to be free and capable of making proposals, of contributing to the construction of our society through values, creativity and solidarity, attentive to internal needs and open to the world”.
The text finally recalls: “We are all responsible for education, from the father and mother of the family to the governors. We must all look towards the horizon of education with hope, without ideologies that make us what we are not; we are all brothers, with the same dignity, same rights and duties. What we sow now will be reaped tomorrow”. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 21/12/2020)
