Colombian national media not impressed by Liverpool's Luis Diaz after losing against Bolivia

Liverpool players did not have complete success during their international excursions on Thursday.

The Reds have 16 senior players out on duty for their countries over the next week, with supporters crossing everything that no further injuries are sustained.

Perhaps the greatest concern lies with those travelling all the way to South America and back.

Alexis Mac Allister did not play for Argentina after being deemed not fit enough to feature, while Alisson Becker obviously missed Brazil’s win over Chile on Thursday.

Darwin Nunez was scheduled to play a friendly for Liverpool but has instead travelled to meet up with his Uruguay teammates, while Luis Diaz is always a key player for Colombia.

After Mac Allister’s absence, Diaz was the first in action this time, with his Colombia team surprisingly losing away to Bolivia. After the game, a harsh verdict was sounded on Liverpool’s No.7.

Diaz has been in great form for Liverpool during the early part of the season. The 27-year-old already has five goals to his name.

Diaz also scored for Colombia during the last international break and looks like he’s properly getting back into his groove.

For Los Cafeteros more generally, they have been in the middle of an excellent period themselves.

Heading into the game in El Alto, Nester Lorenzo’s side sat second in the World Cup qualifying standings, unbeaten in eight matches of the campaign.

But they came unstuck in the high altitude of Bolivia. Miguel Terceros’ goal just before the hour mark was ultimately enough to win the day.

For Diaz, he lasted another 20 minutes or so before being replaced by Juan Hernandez. And according to national paper El Heraldo, it was not before time.

They hand the Liverpool winger a five out of ten, claiming that it was a ‘weak match’ from Diaz.

The £50m signing from Porto is said to have made some poor decisions when he did get on the attack and eventually ran out of gas, ultimately drifting out of the game.

What next for Liverpool’s South Americans?

Although this was a disappointing defeat, Colombia are still well placed in the World Cup qualifying standings.

And they’ll have the chance to bounce back when they take on Chile in a tough-looking game on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, Mac Allister is generally expected to play in Argentina’s next game; a home clash against Bolivia in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Nunez will also look to get some crucial minutes when Uruguay take on Peru on Saturday morning. La Celeste then face Ecuador, also early on Wednesday.

For Diaz, he’ll be keen to put things right against Chile and get back to the electric player we’ve seen so far at Liverpool this season.
