Fourteen projects hailing from seven countries, selected from a total of 269 applicants, will be presented at the Europe-Latin America Co-production Forum, which will unspool from 23-24 September as an integral part of the industry activities at the 72nd San Sebastián Film Festival. The representatives of the chosen works will have the opportunity to introduce their projects to potential partners in order to top off their funding and enhance their access to international markets.

Seven of the projects will be first or second works, as is the case for Solo el amor existe by Mexico’s Natalia López Gallardo, whose feature debut, Robe of Gems, scooped the Silver Bear Jury Prize at the 2022 Berlinale and screened in Horizontes Latinos; Remanso by Paraguay’s Pablo Lamar, who has premiered his short films at Cannes and who won the Special Jury Prize at IFFR in 2016 with his first feature, The Last Land; Los dos paisajes by Argentina’s Francisco Lezama, who made off with the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the Berlinale with An Odd Turn; Tropical Malaise by Colombia’s Jorge Cadena, whose shorts have snagged awards at the Berlinale, IFFR and SXSW; and Mar de Leva by another Colombian helmer, Mariana Saffon Ramírez, the winner of the Orizzonti Prize at Venice with her short film Between You and Milagros.

Some filmmakers will be returning to the festival: they include the duo made up of Mexico’s Fernanda Valadez and Astrid Rondero (who won the Grand Jury Prize in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at Sundance earlier this year with Sujo [+see also:
