6 new routes, 15,000 flights, and 3 million customers: Delta and LATAM celebrate their one-year Joint Venture anniversary
During the inaugural year of their Joint Venture, Delta and LATAM have streamlined travel and grown connections in their key hubs. The partners will continue to launch new routes and increase current routes.
One year after the start of their Joint Venture, the Delta and LATAM alliance has enabled the partners to announce six new routes, carry out 15,000 flights, transport more than 3 million customers and cover more than 56 million miles (90 million kilometers), which is equivalent to the distance between planet Earth and Mercury.
With the mission to significantly enhance connectivity and the customer experience for travel between North America (United States and Canada) and South America (Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay), the partners are celebrating the milestone and looking to the future.
Delta and LATAM have already launched new service between Orlando and Bogota, Colombia (LATAM); and between São Paulo and Los Angeles (LATAM), the only direct route between Brazil and the U.S. West Coast.
On Oct. 29, the partners will launch additional new routes and increase current routes with new Medellin-Miami (LATAM) service; LATAM’s new service between Lima and Atlanta, adding to Delta’s existing service; and Delta’s second frequency between Atlanta and Bogota, adding to its existing service. The introduction of new routes continues in December, with Atlanta-Cartagena on Dec. 22 (Delta), seasonal service between New York JFK and Rio de Janeiro on Dec. 16 (Delta), and in response to growing demand, Delta’s seasonal service between Atlanta and Rio de Janeiro that returns on Dec. 16 will now operate year-round.
“We are thrilled to mark the first anniversary of our transformative partnership,” said Alex Antilla, Vice President of Latin America for Delta Air Lines. “Together, we’re connecting North and South America and attracting new customers. We’ve worked hard together to add exciting new routes, grow existing routes, and make travel easier, more enjoyable, and more rewarding for millions of customers. As we look to the future, we continue our commitment to building on this extraordinary first year, delivering exceptional services, and reinforcing our bond with customers who travel between the two continents. We’re excited to continue this incredible journey.”
“Thanks to our alliance with Delta, our passengers can not only rely on more flights and faster connections to access over 300 destinations, but they can also enjoy greater benefits,” said Martin St. George, Chief Commercial Officer of LATAM Airlines Group. “These include the joint accumulation of miles or points in frequent traveler programs, access for eligible travelers to more than 50 Delta Sky Club lounges in the United States and five LATAM Lounges in South America and much more.”
During the inaugural year of the Joint Venture, the partners have streamlined travel and grown connections in their key hubs:
Miami, LATAM’s main gateway to the United States, saw a 10% increase in capacity, growing connecting opportunities to the 1.7 million seats to 11 cities Delta offered from Miami. In the past year, Delta has also introduced new service from Miami to Orlando and Los Angeles, with new service to Washington, DC, debuting this fall, providing even more connection opportunities for customers.
In Atlanta, Delta’s primary hub and the world’s largest, the partners offered nearly one million seats on 3,500 flights to South America. This growth was driven by a 50% increase in key routes connecting to LATAM hubs in São Paulo, Brazil (GRU), Bogota, Colombia (BOG), Lima, Peru (LIM) and Santiago, Chile (SCL).
At the New York hub, Delta and LATAM offered more than one million seats, while at the Los Angeles hub, the partners increased capacity by 40%.
In the coming months, Delta and LATAM expect to continue announcing new routes and greater benefits to enhance the travel experience for those traveling between North America and South America.
