The outstanding European Union deal with Mercosur in South America continues to be controversial with Carrefour CEO Alexandre Bompard stating that it won’t stock Mercosur meat in France.
French Government and farmers opposed to agricultural deal between EU and South America’s Mercosur
This may be because of pressure from French agricultural unions which have already blockaded a Carrefour distribution centre in Toulouse but it is also French Government policy to try to defy the vote in favour of Mercosur.
An agreement between the EU and Mercosur (consisting of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay) over the importation of food from South America has been a long time in the making and whilst Spain for example appears to be in favour, France and Poland are certainly opposed and planning to try to vote the agreement down.

So far only Carrefour France intends to refuse to stock meat from Mercosur whilst Carrefour in other countries may carry it
It should be stressed that so far, it is only Carrefour France that plans to refuse to stock meat from Mercosur and farmers are opposed because the two largest producers in South America, Argentina and Brazil may have free access to EU Market.
Already, agricultural organisations in Brazil have responded to this announcement and it appears that certain Carrefour stores in Brazil have empty meat counters due to the delivery vehicles refusing to transfer product to Carrefour Stores.
Brazilian politician calls for boycott of Carrefour Brazil
According to Le Monde, Mauro Mendes the governor of Mato Grosso state , one of the major producers of agricultural goods is calling for a nationwide boycott of Carrefour in Brazil, saying “I, as a citizen, will no longer shop at their stores.”
