Brazilian neutral network and digital infrastructure company V.tal, recently in the news thanks to its interest in troubled operator Oi Brasil’s fibre broadband base, is now making headlines through an indoor 5G deal for Brazilian shopping centres.
V.tal has announced a partnership with Brazilian shopping centre administrator Allos for the implementation of 5G mobile coverage infrastructure in a number of shopping centres throughout Brazil.
V.tal will be responsible for providing its partner with an in-building solution (IBS) that enhances connectivity in indoor environments. The expectation is that this will improve the experience of visitors using the internet and other applications within malls.
As Allos’ Technology Director Luiz Martins points out, the company receives more than 40 million visits a month to its malls. The company has some 58 malls in its portfolio, shared between its own and managed units. This service, he suggests will strengthen relationships and improve everyone’s experience.
Of course V.tal has been building this sort of business for a while, offering infrastructure services for 4G and 5G coverage, both outdoor and indoor, supported by its neutral fibre network operations.
Lucas Aliberti, deputy CCO of V.tal, points out that the company’s digital infrastructure includes more than 233,000 installed poles, about 158,000 kilometres of pipelines and 22 million houses passed with fibre optics in all regions of the country. This, he suggests, makes V.tal a serious competitor in this market, generating a more efficient value proposition for venues and operators.
It’s not yet clear when the rollout will take place or what technology will be involved: DAS, neutral networks or a combination of the two are often cited in these cases.
