Eagles stars have been advised to not carry any valuables on the street in Brazil as a sort of safety guide of ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ ahead of their 2024-25 season opener in Sao Paulo.

Speaking to reporters before next week’s game abroad on Sept. 6th, Eagles wideout AJ Brown revealed some of the security measures that the team are taking while in the South American country.

‘We had a meeting yesterday with a whole bunch of ”Don’t Do’s.” I’m just trying to go down there, win a football game & come back here. […] We’re not down there to see the city, this is not a vacation, this is a football game. […] Simple as just walking down the street with your phone in your hand… kinda crazy,’ said Brown, 27.

‘After hearing all that stuff I’m probably gonna be in my room,’ he added.

Compared to the US, Brazil has a significantly higher crime index (42.24 vs. 65.07), according to Numbeo – the world’s largest cost of living and quality of life database.

The overall crime rate of a county is calculated by dividing the total number of Index crimes submitted by police agencies in each county by the county’s population and multiplying the result by 100,000.

There is a also a vast difference in safety comparisons between the US and Brazil, per Numbeo. The US’ safety rate for walking alone during daylight is 70.63, where as in Brazil’s is 50.57.

Problem violent crimes such as vandalism and theft are also much higher in Brazil (71. 13), ranking high among all countries in the world, than in America (57.81).

Worries of being mugged or robbed in the US are relatively lower (43.30) than in the Portuguese-speaking nation (74.17), as well.

Crime has increased in both countries over the last three years (67. 92 in the US and 72.11 in Brazil) but the overall level of crime is notably elevated in Brazil (75.70), than in America (55.11).

Eagles-Packers will be the first NFL game to ever be held in Brazil. The matchup will be played at Corinthians Arena in the country’s largest city. Sao Paulo – the largest city in the southern city and the world’s seven largest city by population – has the sixth highest crime index in Brazil – 70.3 – according to Numbeo. In first spot is Rio (77.5).

In comparison, Philadelphia’s crime index is 66.02, per the website.  New York City’s is 50.63.

Betters are banking on the Eagles’ resurgence ahead of the new season although the team will head into Week 1 without starting and veteran cornerback James Bradbury, who suffered a lower leg injury, earlier this week.
