BRF suspended operations at its plant in Carambeí, in the Brazilian state of Parana.
According to a statement from the company, the fire broke out in the early hours of August 1. The fire was completely extinguished, and all employees are reported to be safe.
“The company is still assessing the economic impact of the event and has (an) insurance policy for this risk factor,” BRF stated in an announcement to the market, signed by Chief Financial and Investor Relations Officer Fabio Luis Mendes Mariano.
The production normally conducted at the Carambeí plant has been redirected to other nearby BRF facilities while operations are suspended. BRF did not give any estimates on when production would resume at the Carambeí facility.
“The company will keep its shareholders and the market in general duly informed, in accordance with current rules and regulations regarding the subject of the announcement,” BRF stated.
BRF, formerly Brasil Foods, is the third largest broiler producer in the world. According to information from the WATTPoultry.com Top Poultry Companies Database, BRF slaughtered 1.67 billion chickens in 2023. The company is also involved in the production of animal feed, pork and turkey.
