The first China-Latin America and Caribbean States Roundtable on Human Rights is scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Sept 10.
This event is co-hosted by the China Society for Human Rights Studies, Renmin University of China, and Universidade Federal Fluminense, marking a significant effort to implement the Global Civilization Initiative. It aims to foster dialogue, promote mutual learning among Chinese, Latin American, and Caribbean civilizations, and advance the diversified development of human rights in the context of modernization.
This year’s roundtable will also commemorate two significant milestones: the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil, and the 10th anniversary of the China-CELAC Forum.
The event’s theme, “The Diversity of Civilizations and the Path to Achieving Human Rights,” will be addressed in three parallel sessions focusing on the contributions of China and Latin America to global human rights civilization, the realization of the right to development and fundamental human rights, and current challenges and solutions for global human rights governance.
Over 100 participants, including high-level officials, senators, dignitaries from China, Latin American and Caribbean nations, representatives from international organizations, academic experts, think tank analysts, legal professionals, business leaders, and media figures, will attend the event to share insights and discuss human rights issues in a global context.
