The National Football League (NFL) returns to Brazil for a regular-season game in 2025, strengthening its commitment to international expansion and fan engagement.
The Los Angeles Chargers take on an opponent to be named at a later date in the international contest, happening Sept. 5 at Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo.
NFL Brazil General Manager Luis Martinez provided insight on the contest.
“After a successful and memorable first game in Brazil in 2024, we are delighted to confirm the league’s return to Sao Paulo with the Los Angeles Chargers as the designated team in what will be an incredible next chapter in the market,” Martinez said. “Alongside our partners — SPTuris, Mayor Nunes and the Corinthians — we will continue to make history together and look forward to delivering an unforgettable experience for passionate fans of the game once again in Brazil.”

The league’s move to bring another game to Brazil follows the success of its inaugural matchup in the country in 2024 when the Philadelphia Eagles faced the Green Bay Packers.
The aforementioned contest marked the NFL’s first-ever regular-season game in South America, bringing in notable local and international interest. With more than 36 million NFL fans in Brazil, the country represents the league’s second-largest international fan base, behind Mexico.
Sao Paulo officials anticipate the return of the NFL and hope it will boost the local economy.
Mayor Ricardo Nunes highlighted the impact of last year’s event, which generated $60 million.
“The NFL’s return in 2025 demonstrates how prepared Sao Paulo is for major events and tourists from around the world,” Nunes said in a statement. “With the expansion of our entertainment calendar, we are generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs with each event.”
SPTuris President Gustavo Pires parroted Nunes’ sentiments, emphasizing the city’s booming reputation as a global hotspot for major events.
“This return is another indication of how Sao Paulo is undoubtedly one of the main capitals on the planet for major events,” Pires said. “It will be an honor to welcome the Chargers and their iconic franchise to our city.”
The Chargers, who have played three international regular-season contests in their history, see this as an opportunity to fortify their international presence.
Chargers President of Business Operations A.G. Spanos knows how important NFL international games are to the team’s growth.
“It’s an honor to once again represent the NFL on an international stage,” Spanos said. “It’s also a tremendous opportunity to help grow the game and bring the Chargers brand to millions of sports fans across Brazil and Latin America.”
