Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has sarcastically suggested that a movie be produced on all the drama surrounding state-investment arm 1MDB.
“A movie can be made on 1MDB, the figures involved and various locations around the world (where 1MDB-linked funds had allegedly flowed).
“Red Granite can invest (in the movie) and several renowned figures can be the actors,” he said in reference to the Hollywood firm owned by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s stepson Riza Aziz (

“Maybe it will win an Oscar,” Mahathir said in his blog posting today.
This follows the latest
admission
by 1MDB president Arul Kanda Kandasamy of “massive fraud” within the troubled fund and “possible collaboration from our (1MDB) side”.
Citing Arul Kanda’s admission, Mahathir said there is more to tell on the story of 1MDB.
“Malaysia has never seen a scandal on the scale of 1MDB. The rakyat, who find it difficult to imagine the scale of RM1 million, are attempting to imagine how much is RM1 billion, RM42 billion.
“The rakyat is confused with stories of so much money going all over the world,” he said.
Among others, Mahathir cited traces of money in Hong Kong, Switzerland, London, America, British Virgin Islands, Seychelles and Abu Dhabi – some of which are under probe by the various foreign authorities.
“That is the story of 1MDB, which has made Malaysia known all around the world.
“Now there will be more tourists coming to the 1MDB country,” he added.
Najib has consistently denied all allegations made against 1MDB and said this is all part of a political plot to topple him from office.
