Peter Island Resort in the British Virgin Islands has joined Preferred Hotels & Resorts’ Legend Collection, soon after reopening its doors for the first time since Hurricane Irma devastated the resort in 2017.
The private island property, which is fresh off a multiyear transformation, reopened on Dec. 1 after a seven-year closure. According to David Van Andel, president of Peter Island Resort, the refresh has elevated the resort to “a new level of luxury.”
Chief among the property’s changes is a relocation to a new site along Deadman’s Beach, one of five beaches on the island.
The 52-room resort features beachfront rooms, suites and villas as well as specialty accommodations like the Falcon’s Nest Villa, which is perched atop a mountain peak and offers expansive views of the Virgin Islands.
Other amenities include a new infinity pool; a 10,000-square-foot seaside spa with seven treatment rooms, a fitness center and a saltwater pool; a 3,000-square-foot conference center; and culinary offerings like the Caribbean-inspired Drake Steakhouse and the Yacht Club’s Drunken Pelican, a casual venue focused on craft cocktails.
Additionally, the island’s former Sprat Bay Marina has been reconfigured and relaunched as the Peter Island Yacht Club. The full-service marina is capable of accommodating superyachts up to 200 feet in length.
Preferred’s Legend Collection is designed to showcase the “ultimate in luxury and service.” All guests of Peter Island Resort are now eligible to participate in I Prefer Hotel Rewards, the brand’s loyalty program.

Peter Island Resort is the sole resort on 1,800-acre Peter Island, the largest private island in the 50-island BVI chain.
