USVI, BVI have Nations League matches Saturday
Both the U.S. Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands will wrap up group play in the 2024 CONCACAF Nations League this weekend.
The USVI National Team — playing in League C’s Group A — has a rematch against the Bahamas on Saturday night at the Wildey Astro Turf Stadium in Bridgetown, Barbados. Game time is 8 p.m. Atlantic.
Earlier that day, the BVI National Team — playing in League C’s Group C — takes on the Cayman Islands at 3:30 p.m. Atlantic at Warner Park in Bassaterre, St. Kitts and Nevis.
The Dashing Eagles are tied with the Bahamas in the Group C standings at 0-1-1 (one point). The two sides battled to a 3-all draw in their previous matchup on Sept. 4 on St. Croix.
Barbados leads the Group A standings at 3-0-0 (nine points), with the Bajan Tridents getting an automatic promotion to League B for the next Nations League rounds in 2025.
The Nature Boyz are last in Group C at 0-0-3, with St. Kitts and Nevis leading at 3-0-0 (nine points) and the Caymans at 1-0-1 (three points).
In their last meeting, the British Virgin Islands lost to the Cayman Islands 1-0 on Sept. 4 in George Town, Cayman Islands.
V.I.’s largest bike race set for Sunday morning on St. Croix
The Virgin Islands Cycling Federation will hold the territory’s largest bike race Sunday morning on St. Croix with the running of the second annual America’s Paradise Challenge.
The Challenge will have races of varying lengths in seven different divisions, with the start and finish at the D.C. Canegata Recreation Complex in Christiansted, near Gallows Bay. The first races are scheduled to begin at 7 a.m.
The entry fee is $50 for non-VICF members, $35 for VICF members and $10 for juniors.
Pre-registration will be held Saturday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Leatherback Brewing Co., 9902 Industrial Park in Kingshill. Race-day registration will be held at the Recreation Complex on Sunday between 6 a.m. and 6:45 a.m.
USVISF to hold assistant referee workshop Saturday
The U.S. Virgin Islands Soccer Federation will hold an assistant referee workshop this weekend on St. Croix.
The workshop is scheduled for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the USVISF’s Bethlehem Soccer Complex.
The workshop will cover the duties and responsibilities of being an assistant referee in soccer.
