A tropical depression formed Sunday in the central Atlantic and is forecast to develop into Tropical Storm Ernesto this week as it approaches the far eastern Caribbean islands, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The forecast has the storm passing over Puerto Rico, where a tropical storm warning was posted on Monday morning. It will then take a turn to the north and strengthen into a hurricane on Wednesday. The track has the storm staying well east of Florida and the U.S. east coast. Tropical storm warnings were also issued for the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and several other islands that border the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean.
