Argentina vs. Canada odds, picks and predictions

Argentina battles Canada in the 1st game of the highly-anticipated Copa America from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Argentina vs. Canada odds, and make our best soccer bets, picks and predictions.

Argentina has been hot over the last 4 years of international play, winning Copa America in 2021 with F Lionel Messi winning the best player award and GK Emiliano Martinez winning best goalkeeper. It then went on to win the World Cup in 2022 on the back of Messi. Playing with Inter Miami, Messi, who was already a global icon, has become a fan-favorite in the U.S. Argentina won all 4 friendlies leading up to Copa America, winning 3 of those 4 by multiple goals.

As for Canada, it has a highly impressive roster as well, led by star Bayern Munich D Alphonso Davies. Canada made the 2022 World Cup but lost all 3 Group F matches and didn’t qualify for the knockout stage. It played just 2 friendlies leading up to the tournament, losing 4-0 to Netherlands June 6 and drawing France 0-0 on June 9. Canada sits 48th on the FIFA Men’s World Rankings.

Prediction

Argentina 2, Canada 0

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

Canada (+1000) has the high-end talent in Davies and Inter Milan F Tajon Buchanan. Its real problem is filling out the roster along those 2, and that has been the issue over the past few years. Against an ultra-talented side led by arguably the most centralizing and technical player in the world, Canada will stand little chance.

However, for the sake of a betting pick, Argentina at -360 has no value as it is far too expensive. The draw is the only playable side, but that’s not suggested here either. Ultimately, avoid the moneyline.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (+112).

Argentina is going to have one of its best keeper on the roster and has a slew of high-profile defenders like Man U’s Lisandro Martinez and Tottenham’s Cristian Romero. Both teams’ key issues will come in the middle of the pitch as Canada’s lack of talent may hurt its ability to possess and create many attacking chances.

Canada has gone Under this total in 2 of its last 3 games. Argentina has gone Under it in 5 of its last 8, holding a clean sheet in 5 of those. It should be able to repeat that type of performance.

Considering the lack of midfield strength and Canada’s lack of talent up top, take UNDER 2.5 (+112).
