The west coast of the US is also on alert as another round of moderate to strong Santa Ana winds is expected in southern California for the next few days.
There are reports of at least four new fires between San Diego and LA, which have ignited during the early hours of Tuesday (local time).
The US Storm Prediction Center is warning of “Extremely Critical Risk of fire weather” – the highest level of warning for wildfires – for the mountainous areas of the LA Basin. Wind gusts could be as high as 100mph (160km/h).
This is similar to the hurricane-force winds that fanned the Palisades fire around a fortnight ago.
At the more populated coastal areas and valleys, there is a “critical” risk of fire weather with gusts of 50-80mph (80-130km/h) expected.
Of additional concern is how dry the air will be. Humidity levels of 2-5% are expected which makes the air the driest it has been all season, according to the National Weather Service.
