Canada border employee on NIA wanted list brings back Punjab’s darkest era

New Delhi: There is still a lot of excitement in India’s relations with North America. On one hand, the situation with the US is moving forward and a high-level team from India, investigating the attempted assassination of Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, was sent to the country last week. On the other hand, in the same time period, things have worsened with Canada and top diplomats have been expelled.

Former Indian high commissioner to Canada Sanjay Kumar—whom India has withdrawn—spoke candidly to the media before returning home, accusing the Canadian system, deep state, and some political leaders of being anti-India. He also said that they were involved with radical groups, and that it had become a business to force Indian students who did not want to return home to carry out anti-India activities so they could ask for asylum and become permanent residents of Canada.

In that light, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) confirmed to ThePrint that Sandeep Singh Sidhu—wanted for “promoting terrorist activities” in Punjab and the murder of a Shaurya Chakra awardee in Punjab’s Tarn Taran—is a CBSA employee.
