Canada took on Uruguay in the 2024 Copa America third-place play-off.

Canada goalkeeper Dayne St.Clair was booked for possibly the most incredible piece of sh*thousery against Uruguay.

On Saturday night, the Canadians took on Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay in the 2024 Copa America third-place play-off match at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Both teams missed out on a place in the final after losing to Argentina and Colombia respectively.

The match ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw after goals from Rodrigo Bentancur, Ismael Kone, Jonathan David and Luis Suarez.

Eventually, the match was decided by a penalty shootout, with Uruguay winning 4-3 after Kone and Alphonso Davies missed their spot kicks.

During the shootout, Canada goalkeeper St.Clair was yellow carded after attempting to hide Uruguay number one Sergio Rochet’s water bottle.

The incident happened before the third penalty of the shootout, St.Clair was approached by both the referee and Rochet after he appeared to read the ‘cheat sheet’ on the Uruguayan’s water bottle before trying to hide it.

In modern-day football, a lot of goalkeepers would have ‘cheat sheets’ stuck on their water bottle in anticipation of a penalty shootout.

The ‘cheat sheet’ usually contains information about which side the opposition players like to convert their penalties.

Speaking ahead of the match, Canada boss Jesse Marsch was asked about potentially taking over the United States men’s team.

He said: “I’m not leaving this job, I have no interest in the U.S. job.

“And to be fair, unless there’s a big shift in the organization, I don’t think that I’ll ever have any interest in that job in the future. So I’m really happy here, I couldn’t be happier actually in terms of what it’s like to work with the leaders in this organization and what it’s like to work with this team.”

The final of the 2024 Copa America between Argentina and Colombia will take on at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Sunday night.
