As diplomatic tensions between Canada and India deteriorate, a new report by a Canadian parliamentary panel has concluded that India is the second biggest foreign threat to Canada’s democracy after China. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says his government takes the matter of foreign interference “very seriously.” The report was submitted to Trudeau’s Office in May but was tabled in the Canadian Parliament this week. The report described China as “clearly the most prolific actor” in the context of foreign interference in Canadian democracy. Iran and Pakistan were also mentioned in the report. Canada has also accused India of killing Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar and New Delhi has called the accusations baseless and absurd.
