JAKARTA Goals in the second half of Jonathan David’s striker helped Canada secure a 1-0 win over ten Peruvian players in the second match of the 2024 Copa America group phase.
The first victory in the preliminary round of Group A was secured by Lesxides at Sporting Park, Kansas City, Wednesday, June 25 morning WIB. The results that made their chances of going to the knockout stages grew.
On paper, Peru is noted to have made quite a lot of threats to the goal even though Canada appears to dominate overall ball possession.
In the first half, Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau was even forced to make an important save to thwart Piero Quispe’s attempt. In addition, Gianluca Lapadula’s goal was also ruled out for offside.
The momentum that benefited Canada then came after halftime when Peruvian defender Miguel Araujo was sent off after video assistant referee (VAR) intervention proved he had committed a serious foul.
A quarter hours later David calmly scored a goal in a quick counter-attack. Results that make Canada now sit in second place in the group standings.
Crepeau then became a savior for Canada in extra time. He was recorded twice as thwarting the efforts of substitute Paolo Gu Way.
Canada previously lost their first game against Argentina. Then they will play the group’s final match against Chile on Sunday, June 30.
